Myths about HIV and AIDS Transmission
HIV has been found in the saliva of people who have HIV. But, it has never been proven
that HIV is spread by contact with saliva, such as with kissing. Researchers have also
found no proof that HIV is spread through sweat, tears, urine, or feces.
There have been many studies of families of people who have HIV. All have shown very
clearly that HIV is not spread through casual contact, such as sharing eating utensils,
towels and bedding, swimming pools, telephones, or toilet seats. HIV is not spread by
biting insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, or bedbugs.
